Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at the Kalagayizhilejar on the northern slope of Kunkelaqitag, Arheqi County, Xinjiang.It was named by the Research Institute under the Xinjiang Geological Bureau and the Institute of Geology under the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences in 1987.


Lithology and Thickness

Limestone. Black thin-bedded clayey limestone and algal clastic limestone, intercalated with stromatolitic limestone, yielding a small amount of Fusulinida and stromatolites. Thickness is 158 m

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformable contact with the black limestone of the underlying Zharjiak Fm

Upper contact

Regional extent

Distributed on the northern slope of Kunkelaqitag and represents isochronous deposits of different facies together with that of the Wutankule Fm occurring in the Kepingtag and Subashi areas.

In accordance with the fossils contained in both the overlying and underlying strata, the age of the formation should belong to the Longlinian Stage of the Chuanshanian Series = Artinskian Stage (middle Cisuralian Epoch; mid-Early Permian)
